Avengers: Doomsday (2026) and Avengers: Secret Wars (2027) Delayed

Marvel Studios is nearing the end of the Multiverse Saga, with only four confirmed movies, seven confirmed television shows/seasons, and one confirmed special presentation left. Although that may sound like a lot, it's all expected to be completed within the next couple of years.

The final project of the Multiverse Saga is supposed to be Avengers: Secret Wars, which will be the sequel to Avengers: Doomsday. Avengers: Doomsday was set to be released on May 1, 2026, with Avengers: Secret Wars following a year later on May 7, 2027... until this past Thursday (May 22, 2025).

According to Deadline and confirmed by Disney and Marvel, Avengers: Doomsday has been delayed to December 18, 2026, and Avengers: Secret Wars has been delayed to December 17, 2027.

Deadline mentions that these films will be "among the biggest ever made," and that the delay is to "allow more time to execute on a gargantuan vision."

This is good. Avengers: Doomsday (2026) just started filming this April and is set to finish around December, and with the original release date, that would have left this VFX-heavy massive event film with less than a year in post-production. On top of that, Avengers: Secret Wars (2027) would have had to rush either filming or post-production to make it on time, neither of which is good. With these new release dates, it gives the Russo brothers and Marvel Studios plenty of time to put quality over quantity, as previously promised by the studio.

These delays also mean that Spider-Man: Brand New Day (2026) will now release before Doomsday, which might seem weird considering that Spider-Man: Brand New Day (2026) isn't set to start filming until around August 2025, and Doomsday has already started filming. But it is important to keep in mind that a Spider-Man film is not on the same scale as an Avengers film, and that more time is needed in post-production for an Avengers film versus a Spider-Man one.
