According to TheWrap and multiple insiders, Chris Evans and Anthony Mackie will return for Avengers: Doomsday (2026). Chris Evans previously portrayed Captain America in the MCU, starting with Captain America: The First Avenger (2011) and ending with Avengers: Endgame (2019). Evans reappeared in the MCU recently, appearing as a variant of Johnny Storm, a.k.a the Human Torch in Deadpool & Wolverine (2024). Anthony Mackie currently portrays the new Captain America in the MCU after Evans's character passed the Captain America mantle to Mackie's character in Avengers: Endgame (2019). Mackie is set to star in Captain America: Brave New World (2025), coming February 2025.
This is cool! Avengers: Doomsday (2026) is looking to have an amazing cast, with a confirmed cast of:
Robert Downey Jr. as Victor von Doom/Doctor Doom
Benedict Cumberbatch as Stephen Strange/Doctor Strange
Tom Holland as Peter Parker/Spider-Man
Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic
Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm/Invisible Woman
Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm/Thing
Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm/Human Torch
Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier
Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova/Black Widow Agent
Wyatt Russell as John Walker/U.S. Agent
David Harbour as Alexei Shostakov/Red Guardian
Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson/Captain America
Chris Evans as a to-be-confirmed-character
Anthony Mackie returning makes sense, as he'll probably be the leader of whatever new Avengers team fights in the film. Chris Evans could be playing multiple roles, such as the main MCU Steve Rogers (they never explicitly said he was dead!), a variant of Steve Rogers, a variant of the Human Torch, etc. I am so excited for this film!
Avengers: Doomsday comes to theaters on May 1, 2026!
