DC Studios seems to be very busy behind the scenes. Their 2026 Clayface film has recently gained itself a famous horror director. James Watkins, director of the films Speak No Evil (2024), The Woman in Black (2012), and Eden Lake (2008), has reportedly snagged the job. Watkins is known for directing low-budget horror films.
This is a great choice! I haven't watched any of this director's projects, but from what I've read, Watkins seems like a fantastic pick to direct Clayface (2026). I am still baffled that DC Studios is choosing to have a Clayface film as the third film in their new DC Universe (DCU), but I am cautiously optimistic.
DC Studios' Clayface currently doesn't have any actors attached to the project and has a reported budget of $40 million. Filming is expected to start later this year. The synopsis reads as follows, "In this Hollywood horror story, a B-movie actor uses a substance to remain relevant but becomes made entirely of clay." It will be directed by James Watkins from a script by Mike Flanagan.
Clayface is set to release in theaters on September 11, 2026!
