Marvel Studios’ Cancelled Avengers: The Kang Dynasty Plot Leaked

What could have been huh? Before Jonathan Majors got himself in some legal trouble, he was set to play Kang The Conqueror and be the MCU’s next big bad. The now cancelled “Avengers: The Kang Dynasty,” would have shown the full power of Kang. After Majors was found guilty for assault, Avengers: The Kang Dynasty’s title was changed to simply “Avengers 5,” as Marvel figured out how they wanted to handle the character going forward. Recently at San Diego Comic Con, Marvel Studios revealed that Avengers 5 was now Avengers: Doomsday (2026), and that Robert Downey Jr. would star as Victor Von Doom a.k.a. Doctor Doom. Many fans were left wondering what could have been if Kang had stayed the new big bad, and now we may know. Many insiders are reporting the apparent full plot for the cancelled movie. The plot for the cancelled movie is as follows:

In this film, the TVA began gathering Anchor Beings from across the Multiverse, believing they are the only ones powerful enough to defeat the Council of Kangs. Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield were the Anchors for their respective realities, while Tom Holland’s Spider-Man served as the Anchor for Earth-616. The movie was intended to be smaller in scope compared to SECRET WARS, focusing more on Holland's Peter Parker, Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield, Hugh Jackman's Wolverine, and other Anchors like Nic Cage's Ghost Rider. The plan was for all of them to ultimately fail, leading to the collapse of the Multiverse and Kang’s creation of Battleworld. This would then set the stage for SECRET WARS, where other MCU characters and additional Multiverse figures would converge on Battleworld.

This would have actually been really cool to see, and as excited as I am for Downey Jr.’s Doom, I kinda wish Marvel had stayed with this story. I mean, I’m sure maybe some stuff will stay the same like possibly the Anchor Being stuff because that was just introduced in Deadpool & Wolverine (2024), but Kang was just a really good villain. He was one of the best characters in Loki (2021-2023) and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania (2023), and he just kinda had that presence. Avengers: Doomsday (2026) still excites me though and I still believe the MCU is getting on the right track again.
