Finally: some casting for the untitled fourth Spider-Man film. Actress Sadie Sink, known for her role as Max Mayfield in Stranger Things (2016-2025), has joined the cast of 2026’s Spider-Man 4. This news comes from Deadline, among others.
The Deadline article states that while the actress’s role is unknown, it is rumored that she will play X-Men Jean Grey, which would mark the first X-Men appearance in the MCU (not counting Deadpool & Wolverine (2024), which took place primarily in other universes). Mary Jane Watson, also known as just MJ, is also rumored, despite Zendaya, Tom Holland’s fiancée and co-star of the past trilogy, playing a version named Michelle Jones Watson, who goes by MJ, in the MCU already.
This is cool, I am very glad to finally get Spider-Man 4 (2026) casting news. I personally think that Sink will not end up playing Jean Grey or another MJ for two reasons:
1: Tom Holland is not going to let his fiancée be replaced by a white woman as the same character, not only would it look bad for the studio but Holland would never allow it.
2: I do not believe Marvel would just randomly introduce a young Jean Grey into the MCU in a Spider-Man movie. I believe, based on Marvel’s past comments, that the X-Men and Mutants will be saved for after Avengers: Secret Wars (2027).
My personal guess for Sink’s character is Gwen Stacy. Just because Sink is a redhead doesn’t mean she has to play a redheaded character, wigs and hair dye exist. In the comics, Peter Parker met his “first love” Gwen Stacy in college, which would line up with the timeline and current status of Tom Holland’s Spider-Man after Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021).
The currently untitled fourth Spider-Man film swings into theaters July 31, 2026!
