Hello Spidey fans! There is a lot of big news this time around. During a recent Q&A insider Alex Perez (The Cosmic Circus) revealed that Spider-Man 4, rumored to be titled Spider-Man: King in Black, is becoming "more and more multiversal than street-level" in response to a question. See exactly what he said below:
Fan: "Hi Alex, I hope you are doing good. This is my first q/a so here goes. You have said that Spider-Man 4 will have a mixture of street level and multiverse, so Venom and Knull cover the multiverse part, so what will be the street level elements in Spider-Man 4?"
Alex Perez: "It’s set in NYC. With each passing day, it becomes more and more multiversal than street-level. At this point, I dare say it’s leaning slightly cosmic than street. These things, especially with pre-production, shift so much, so I try to update them as best I can on the fly as they happen. I know it’s annoying for many of you, but let’s wait until later on to get more solid confirmation."
If true, this makes me deeply annoyed. The majority of Spider-Man fans, including myself, wanted a street-level film after Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021). And that's not because that movie is bad, in fact it is one of the best MCU/Superhero films of all time, but it was so good because it was special. Nobody had ever successfully done something like that before, but Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021) did. But you can only do something like that once, and the end of Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021) left Peter Parker in the perfect position to become a very comic accurate street-level hero. Sony is interfering with Marvel Studios and I don't like it.
On to the next piece of news, Alex Perez also revealed new information on Spider-Man 4's villians. In the previously mentioned Q&A, another fan asked: "Hey Alex, hope all is well and good. Is there going to be more villains in Spider-Man 4 besides Venom and Knull?" To which Alex Perez responded with, "More symbiotes."
This lines up with all past reports about Spider-Man 4, Knull, Venom, etc. I really wish they would stop trying to connect the MCU to the SSU, but other than that this is pretty cool news. Excited to see how they set it up in Venom: The Last Dance (2024).
Speaking of Venom: The Last Dance (2024), Alex Perez gave some info on that film as well. When a fan asked Alex Perez about the popular fan theory that Tom Holland would appear in a post-credits scene in Venom: The Last Dance (2024), Alex responded, "Tom’s not showing up in Venom 3. My teases on Twitter were in reference to the crossover happening later on because of the events that transpire. But no, Tom Holland does not appear in Venom: The Last Dance."
This sheds some much needed light on this particular theory. I am pretty glad that Holland won't be appearing in a post-credit scene in Venom: The Last Dance (2024), I don't feel like it would have been the right time to see Tom Holland's Peter Parker for the first time after Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021).
More Tom Holland news, a fan asked Alex Perez the following, "Hi Alex, Are Tobey and Andrew returning in Spider-Man 4? Will Tom get the symbiote suit in Spider-Man 4?" To which Alex responded, "I will get an answer for you soon. But as I understand it, Tom will get the symbiote suit in the next few years and may keep it for the next couple of Spidey films. As for Tobey and Andrew…I heard that there is a very strong possibility they show up for an extended role this time around, given the setting of the Multiverse Saga."
This is both good and bad news. Good news: We will finally get to see Tom's Spider-Man with the symbiote suit and hopefully have him have it in Avengers: Doomsday (2026) and Avengers: Secret Wars (2027) like in the comics. Bad news: I love Tobey and Andrew's Spider-Men, I really do, but this ties back to what I said earlier about Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021). What they did in that movie was special, but bring Tobey and Andrew back again kinda ruins that magic. Hopefully they do it right.
On to some casting news, Alex Perez responded to this question from a fan: “Will we see Black Cat appear in Spider-Man 4 or later in this trilogy? There were rumors of a new female and male lead (who’ll act as a spoil to Peter) being cast, so is the female lead Black Cat?” To which Alex Perez simply responded, “No.”
This is a bit sad. Again seeing the loss of the former street-level film. I remember the rumors about Sydney Sweeney playing Black Cat, and her being a huge part of Spider-Man 4. What could have been I guess. Hope Black Cat is in Spider-Man 5 or 6.
And that’s it! All this news is cool and I’m excited for Spider-Man 4! Keep tuned for more Spider-Man, Marvel, and DC news!
Spider-Man 4 comes into theaters summer 2026! (Rumored release window)
