In June 2025, James Gunn, director/writer of Superman (2025) and co-CEO of DC Studios, shared that he had started work on a follow-up to Superman (2025) after the moderate success of the film. However, he said it would not be a "direct continuation" but would still feature Superman in a central role. In August, David Zaslav, CEO and President of Warner Bros. Discovery, confirmed that Gunn was set to write and direct the next installment in the "Super-Family" franchise, with Gunn stating that he had already completed a script treatment. He referred to it as the next installment in the "Superman Saga" and expressed his hope to begin production soon.
On September 3, 2025, James Gunn posted on Instagram a picture of Lex Luthor in a mech suit and Superman next to him holding a screwdriver (As seen above). The caption? "Man of Tomorrow. In theaters July 9, 2027."
David Corenswet (Superman's DCU actor), Nicholas Hoult (Lex Luthor's DCU actor), and Isabela Merced (Hawkgirl's DCU actress) all posted the same thing shortly after, confirming their involvement in the project.
This confirms that the follow-up/sequel to Superman (2025) is titled Man of Tomorrow (2027) and will release in theaters on July 9, 2027, making it the fourth film in the DC Universe, and the seventh installment of Chapter One: Gods and Monsters. It will be released almost exactly two years after Superman (2025). It is somewhat unclear whether the title is Superman: Man of Tomorrow (2027) or simply Man of Tomorrow (2027), but based on the post and Gunn's comments, it is likely just titled Man of Tomorrow.
The art attached to the post implies that the movie will be a Superman/Lex Luthor film, possibly making Hoult's Luthor a co-lead (he basically already was in Superman (2025). In the art, Superman is seen holding a screwdriver while Lex is in his mech suit, implying that Lex and Superman will team up, and that Superman will help Luthor build the suit, most likely to take on a greater threat. Some more art shared also showed Superman and Lex fighting, insinuating that Lex might betray Superman, or they will butt heads for a while before teaming up.
Nexus Point News has revealed a bit more information about Man of Tomorrow (2027), reporting that "production is aiming to begin in the summer of 2026, specifically in June." They also shared that their sources told them "that Supergirl (Milly Alcock), Lobo (Jason Momoa), and Peacemaker (John Cena) will have roles in the film as well." Alcock's Supergirl and Momoa's Lobo are set to star in Supergirl (2026) next summer, and Cena's Peacemaker is currently starring in his own show streaming on Max.
I am beyond excited for Man of Tomorrow (2027). I absolutely loved Superman (2025), and I think DC Studios really has something special with this version of Superman. Plus, it is extremely rare that a major studio announces, films, and releases a sequel in only two years nowadays, so I really hope this doesn't get delayed. I have high hopes for the future of the DCU.
Superman is currently playing in theaters and is available to buy on digital!
